t. Joseph's GAA Club London Club Notes

12 December 2011

End of Year Get Together

St. Joseph's held the annual pre-Christmas get together on Saturday, 10 December, in The Shanakee, Ealing Broadway. A ‘craic-ing' night was had by all! Many thanks to Bill Joyce and his lovely staff at The Shanakee for the food and warm hospitality extended to us; we are grateful for your support and look forward to your continued support in 2012. Many thanks also to the Social Committee for arranging the complimentary drinks, which were greatly received by players, management and supporters alike! The night capped off what has been a great year for the club.

Fundraising for Mark McGovern

St. Joseph's raised £2,000 for Mark McGovern at a Night at the Races held in August in McCann's, Hanwell. Mark, from Belcoo, Co. Fermanagh, suffered serious head injuries in a game in San Francisco in June. We have several players from Mark's club in Belcoo. The money raised will go towards Mark's medical and rehabilitation costs and was gratefully received by The Mark McGovern Rehabilitation Fundraising Committee. Many thanks to everyone who made the night such a success.

2012 Club AGM / Players' Meeting

The 2012 Club AGM / Players' Meeting will be held on Sunday, 15 January 2012, at 7pm in the Visitation Centre, Greenford. All players, management and committee members are kindly requested to attend. We look forward to sharing our plans for the 2012 season.

St. Joseph's v West London Wildcats Challenge Match

We are currently arranging a challenge match to be held in the New Year against the West London Wildcats. The Wildcats are the 2011 London AFL Premier Champions and they are very much looking forward to the contest! More details to follow.

Lotto News

The next draw will take place this Sunday, 18 December, in The Wishing Well, Greenford, at 8:30pm. The jackpot is a huge £1,500, which would make a very nice early Christmas present! Please contact Joe on             07597 168298       for tickets.

New Players

St. Joseph's is one of the oldest clubs within London GAA. We had a very successful year in 2011 under the management of ex London and Clare footballer, Paul Hehir. We were the:

·         2011 London Junior Champions;

·         Division 2 (Intermediate) League finalists, having narrowly missed promotion to the Division 1 (Senior) League when we narrowly lost to the 2011 London Senior Champions;

·         Mallarkey Cup runners-up.

Everyone within the club is committed to making a big push to ensure continued footballing success in 2012. We look forward to successful campaigns in the Intermediate Championship and League and will push for promotion from the Intermediate grade, along with the two Cup competitions within London GAA.

New players are always very welcome to join the club. We are based in West London, close to Ealing, Hanwell, Acton, Greenford, Harrow, Hayes, Hillingdon, Northolt, Perivale, Ruislipand surrounding areas. The club covers a wide area and current players live in many different areas, including Ealing, Fulham, Harrow and Ruislip. We have players from all over Ireland, along with some English born lads. Currently, we have representatives from over 16 different counties in Ireland and any new player will feel at home when they join. We can arrange for transport to and from our training ground and pick-up from stations, if required. If you would like to join the club, please do not hesitate to contact us through our any of our contact details below; we would be delighted to hear from you.
