LAST MEETING

NICKY RACKARD CUP 2005

London 1-20 Monaghan 2-11

A strong second half performance saw London pull away to take both points and pole position in Group C of the Rackard Cup with a six points victory over Monaghan in Ruislip. The basis for the win was the dominance of their OMeara/Harding midfield pairing who gave them a solid foothold in that area and with the resultant possession that began to rack up the scores. Monaghan played with the wind in the first half and went in level at the break at 1-7 apiece. Mark Traynor got the London goal and Gareth Sullivan netted for Monaghan.
In the second half London gained increasing control although Monaghan also contrived to make life difficult for themselves by conceding frees that London exploited. Approaching the end London led by nine points but Monaghan fought to the final whistle and were rewarded with a late goal by Padraig Dowdall to leave six in it at the finish.
