Fundraiser as London Rose Embarks on Humanitarian Mission

On Saturday the 7th of February, an event will be held to fundraise for the current London Rose, Saoirse Faughnan, as she embarks on a humanitarian mission to Belarus with the Chernobyl Children International charity. The event will take place in the Blue Posts pub in the centre of Soho. The admission on the night will be £10 with attendees greeted by a champagne reception and food with entertainment from a talented DJ.

Saoirse will be joined by a host of other international Roses as they volunteer in the Vesnova children’s mental institutions. Before the Roses travel, they will fundraise in their own countries to donate €20,000 to facilitate ongoing work in the area. The institution is supported by the Cork based Chernobyl Children International charity. The charity has raised an estimated €91 million for the children of Belarus along with bringing children to Ireland for recuperative holidays. As part of her volunteering, Saoirse will assist the institutions staff with the children’s physical therapy, help at meal times and look after the children’s in general hygiene.

London Rose 2014, Saoirse Faughnan said: “On the 18th of February, I will be travelling to a very impoverished corner of the world and feel extremely proud to representing London by taking part in this challenging humanitarian mission with my fellow Roses. I am currently fundraising within my local community in London and in my home county of Donegal. However, there is quite a long way to go until I reach my target of over £1,500. I am absolutely thrilled to have the chance to make a difference to these children’s lives and have already been told that they are very excited to meet. I am also very much aware that this will be a challenging and heart-wrenching trip but it is very important that we highlight the support that Belarus still requires from the rest of the world.”
