March 29, 2013
U18 Herts-London League 2013 - Match Report.
Tir Chonaill Gaels V Tara's/Parnell's played at Greenford, Good Friday 29th March 2013.
The opening match of the new Hertfordshire-London U18 Football League took place on Friday afternoon in sunny Greenford. With all the recent poor weather it was fortunate that this Good Friday tussle was played in almost ideal conditions. The few spectators in attendance were treated to an exciting and entertaining encounter.
Unfortunately due to injuries and players away for the Easter holidays, TCG where limited to play with only 11 players. Both teams however agreed to play the match as 11 aside.
Despite been understrength TCG started the game well and dominated the first 10 minutes of the match with an impressive passage of play making several scoring changes; however they had only had 1 point to show for all their endeavours. By the 15th Minute TCG had managed to develop 1-3 to 0-0 lead, this was soon pegged back as Tara's/Parnell's scored their opening goal with almost their first opportunity for a score. Both teams continued to battle well with many good scoring chances being missed as the half progressed. TCG however where to lead at half time by 1-4 to 1-0.
Tir Chonaill Gaels 1-4 Tara/ Parnell's 1-0
The second half started at a fast pace with the Tara/Parnell's determined to get back into the game. Tara's/Parnell's where able to take the advantage of having 4 substitutes and used these with great effect as the half progressed, these fresh legs made a huge difference as with 10 minutes remaining in the match they had turned the game around to lead by 1-7 to 1-4 having scored 7pts without reply. TCG then hit back with a well worked goal to leave the side's level going into the closing stages of the match. This now set up an exciting climax to the game, with both team missing several opportunities to see out the match. TCG at this point at looked the likely team to go on and win the match. However Tara managed to create a goal that proved to be the key moment of the match from an unfortunate error by the TCG defence. TCG fought hard in the final few minutes to claw the game back, but where only able to add one further score to leave 2pts between the teams as the final whistle blew.
Congratulations to both sets of players for what was a very entertaining and enjoyable match with Tara's/Parnell's running out the eventual winners by 2-8 to 2-6.
Many thanks to Michael Mullen who stepped in at the last minute to officiate the game.
TCG 2 - 6 Tara's/Parnell's 2-8.
