Upcoming Fixture:

Harlesden Harps will hope to continue their recent good form when they take on St Anthony’s in the semi-final of the Shiel Cup. The match will take place on Wednesday, 05th July at 7:15pm at Wormwood Scrubs, Artillery Lane (Off Du Cane Road), London, W12 0DF. A big chance to get into another cup final so all hands to the pump to keep the momentum going. As usual, make sure you check public transport is in use and for any likely traffic delays, etc and ensure everyone is at the venue nice and early for a proper preparation for the game.

The replay of the Murphy Cup against St Brendan’s is scheduled for Ruislip on Sunday, 09th July at 2:00pm. After a classic contest in the first game another tasty encounter is anticipated with the first trip to Ruislip for the team hopefully yielding a new cup for the trophy cabinet.

Previous Matches:

Harlesden Harps had their first chance of silverware of the season when they took on St Brendan’s in the final of the Murphy Cup recently. Wet conditions threatened to put a damper on the game but these two teams had other ideas, entertaining the hardy souls who were watching with a close, tense and high-quality game of football.

The Harps started the game the stronger and some fine point taking had the team up by four points at half time. It took a well taken goal to get the Brendan’s back into the game in the second half and the teams stayed close together all the way to the final whistle. Twenty minutes of extra-time were agreed upon with first the Brendan’s forging two ahead and then the Harps upping the pace and keeping their cool to equalise before the whistle was blown for the end once again, final score Harps 0-15 St Brendan’s 1-12. There were some super scores along the way from the likes of John Rafferty, Padraig McGoldrick, especially from difficult and pressurised placed balls, and Anthony Donelan. So, a replay is needed to see who will claim the cup but if the replay is anyway as entertaining as this game we’re in for a treat!

The team kept the momentum going with their first league win of the season with a very convincing performance against Neasden Gaels. Playing free flowing, attacking football throughout, the movement and energy of the Harps men was far too much for their opponents. Some excellent running from Danny Somers and pin-point accuracy free taking from Padraig McGoldrick saw the final score end as Harps 1-17 Gaels 0-09. Let’s roll on now to the Shiel Cup semi-final and keep the recent impressive run going.

Training:

Training continues this week taking place Tuesday at 7:45pm in The Shamrock Club, 307A Horn Lane, Acton, W3 0BP (nearest tube station: North Acton on the Central Line). Any new players wishing to "play a bit a ball" are very welcome to come along to this well-run club. If needed we can offer good jobs, along with accommodation and a social life to our members. Transport to and from training and pick up from local stations can also be arranged.

As usual, check public transport is in use and for any likely traffic delays, etc and make sure everyone is at the venue nice and early for a proper preparation.
