Upcoming Fixtures:

Harlesden Harps are playing the semi-final of the Murphy Cup tonight, Tuesday 06th June at 7:15pm against old rivals St Josephs. The match will take place at Greenford, pitch two, London, UB6 0NZ. Always a close affair whenever these two teams meet, the added incentive of a competition final place should make for a cracking mid-summers game.

As usual, make sure you check public transport is in use and for any likely traffic delays, etc and ensure everyone is at the venue nice and early for a proper preparation for the game.

Further Fixtures:

Harlesden Harps first team will hope to put their recent losses in the league behind them when they take on Éire Óg in their next game. The match will take place on Tuesday, 13th June at 7:15pm at Downhills Park, Downhills Park Road, Haringey, London N17 6AP. The game offers a chance to get back to winning ways for the team and show improvement on the previous performance. Let’s start the game well and give ourselves a chance of kicking off our league campaign.

Harlesden Harps reserve team will hope to continue their fine form and keep their unbeaten run going against Round Towers in the AIB Reserve Football League in their next game. The match will take place on Sunday, 11th June at 3:30pm at Poulter Park, Peterborough Road, Mitcham, SM5 1EE. Another tough test for the team but they’ve shown good form so far this year, with excellent numbers and plenty of competition for places, so roll on this game and keep the momentum going.

Previous Matches:

The Harps played out an entertaining but ultimately fruitless game against Parnells in their league campaign recently. A high-class encounter there was some marvellous scores from both teams, however, it was Parnells who finished the stronger to emerge as victors on a scoreline of 4-14 to 3-11. The goals were spread out with John Rafferty, Danny Somers and James Minahan all hitting the net. Other honourable mentions to Peter Rafferty, Tom Moriarty and Darren Lynch who battled gamely throughout but unfortunately some defensive work will need to be worked on before the next games.

The Harps reserve team played their latest game of their league campaign with a super battling draw against St Kiernans last Sunday. An annoying breeze was with Kiernans in the opening half and they went in to the half time oranges leading by three points. Our boys stepped up a gear in the second half but a goal and some cheap points mid-way through the half looked to have put the game out of reach. Not so, as the Harps upped the pace and a penalty save from the experienced Noel Furlong in goal would prove crucial to the comeback. A fine left footed finish to the net from Michael Breen and some beautiful point kicking from amongst others Ashley O Halloran, Gerry Rowley and Anthony Donelan left the final scoreline of Harps 1-11 St Kiernans 1-11. Let’s keep up the good form in the next league game (see above for details).

Homegrown Blitz:

Our homegrown team take to the field this Saturday 10th June in Páirc na hÉireann, Birmingham in a homegrown blitz competition. A good chance to keep those players ticking over and to showcase the local born element of the club.

Training:

Training continues this week taking place Tuesday at 7:45pm in The Shamrock Club, 307A Horn Lane, Acton, W3 0BP (nearest tube station: North Acton on the Central Line). Any new players wishing to "play a bit a ball" are very welcome to come along to this well-run club. If needed we can offer good jobs, along with accommodation and a social life to our members. Transport to and from training and pick up from local stations can also be arranged.

As usual, check public transport is in use and for any likely traffic delays, etc and make sure everyone is at the venue nice and early for a proper preparation.
