Tir Chonaill Gaels Club Notes – Monday 5th June 2017

Match Report

Our Junior Team travelled to Goodmayes last Tuesday evening to take on Thomas McCurtains in Round 3 of the League. Played in glorious conditions, the Young Guns got off to a strong start in the first half with Liam Cunningham sticking 2 excellent frees off the deck to put the Gaels in control. TMC fought back and got a couple scores of their own before Ryan Kearney pointed from play to send the Gaels in at half time with a lead of 2 points on a score line of 0-5 to 0-3.

TMC started the 2nd half brightest and put pressure on but the young Gaels defence stood up to the task and continued to break up the McCurtains play as they relied on set pieces for their scores. Kieran Clarke then delivered a great ball into the Full Forward line for Rory Jennings to rattle the onion bag and register the maximum. This put the Gaels a point up heading into the last 10 minutes of the match, but this is when McCurtains pushed on and continued to chip away at the scoreboard before the killer blow as they scored a goal from a long ball delivered into the box. That was to be the final score of the game as McCurtains ran out winners on a score line of 1-12 to 1-07.
