Dulwich Harps club notes 8th May 2017

Sunday saw our men’s team start their league campaign for 2017 with a trip up to Greenford to take on Tir Conaill Gaels. The game started in a tense manner with both teams trading early scores. TCG’s defensive system was proving difficult for the Harps to break down but their patient and persistent build up play paid off when Darren White saw a gap in the defence and rattled the ball past the keeper to give the Blues an early lead. Further points from Ryan McAnearney, Mickey Clarke, Ryan Brolly and Ciaran Stone seen the Harps go in with a half time lead of 1-06 to 0-1.

The second half started somewhat slower for the Harps as they were attacking into a strong breeze and a number of miss chances gave TCG renewed hope that they could get back into the game. After a few second half points their tails were up and after they were awarded a penalty it appeared that they had been given a lifeline back into the game. However Harps keeper Niall Russell dived low and hard to his right hand side to keep the ball out and from this play the momentum swung once again in the Harps favour.

The introduction of number substitutes helped reinvigorate the Blues and they finished the scoring for the afternoon with a long distance point from Dave Draper and a clinically taken goal from Aaron Harper to leave the final score at TCG 0.04 - Dulwich Harps 2.08.

Starting XV;
