Easter is over and now the season well and truly starts.  Both the Senior Men and Youth teams have been in action this weekend.  Starting with the Seniors and their game in the Tipperary Cup saw a defeat losing  0 – 13 to 1 -19 to a strong KKG side.  However the lads will come back stronger for the next game this Sunday against TCG.  The U14’s got off to a great start to their season beating St Kiernans 6-19 to 4-08.  The U12’s participated in their first blitz at Hendon Rugby Club (new home to St Kiernans), Pool A consisting of Parnells, St Kiernans, Tara, Dulwich Harps and TCG.  An enjoyable feast of football for all.  This coming week, nearly all age groups will be playing in League games and the first U6/8/10 Blitz of the season at Greenford in the form of the Annual Peter McGlynn Tournament which also features a competition for the U13’s.

Training is now in full swing for all sections of the club, Northwick Park playing fields has never been busier.  The Seniors still just doing one night per week on Tuesdays from 7.30 – 9.00pm.  With competitions starting and the Seniors returning from Kildare after a successful weekend, enthusiasm is at an all-time high.  This Sunday will see the men take on TCG in the Tipperary Cup at Greenford, throw in 3.30pm and then a possible game on the 6th May.  This will be followed by an informal get together at Buckley’s in Queensbury for players and supporters.

Forthcoming Events:  Preparations are well underway for the Parnells Golf Classic 2017 on the 5/5/2017 at Mill Hill Golf Club, 2pm.  All details, a news piece giving updates and forms are to be found on the Club Website.  A get together for the Senior and Minors of the club is in the diary for the 19/5/2017 at Buckley’s in Queensbury.  This is to formally present the new training jerseys to the Senior section by Noreen Buckley who has kindly sponsored them and also for the Minors to present some outstanding winners medals from previous years competitions. It would be great to see ‘everyone’ there.  If anyone wants to get involved, new players always welcome to training, please contact Dennis Diggins (07768 352680).

Outdoor training with the schools back has begun for all at Northwick Park playing fields.

The u6/8/10 have sessions on a Wednesday from 6.30-7.30/7.45pm. The U12 Girls and their programme ‘Gaelic 4 Girls’ also taking place on a Wednesday 6.30-7.30pm.  U12 Boys-Thursday’s 6.30-7.45pm, U14’s-Tuesday 6.15-7.30pm, U16’s-Tuesday 6.30 – 7.45pm.  Minors linking up with the Seniors for their training sessions.  To attend any of the above training sessions contact Youth Club Secretary, Colin Corrigan on 07917729411 or Fiona Corrigan for the girls on 07940 568702.

‘Race for Sam & Liam’- Entries by envelope (available from committee members), £10 ea. with a cash prize of £500.  Robbie Welby has returned from Oughterard and finalised the itinerary for the weekend trip taking place from the 30/4 – 1/5 2017.  Its sounds extremely exciting with football matches followed by a reception, a visit to an adventure centre and training with players and ex-players from the Galway team over the course of the weekend.

Lloyd Colfer, London CDA has announced the launch of an U15 Development League due to commence in mid-May.  Congratulations on this initiative, if it’s as successful as the U17 competition, it will be a fantastic addition to the Youth football calendar and Parnells look forward to participating in it.

Next Youth meeting has been rearranged to be on the 26th (not the 25th) April 8.00pm at The Green Man in Kingsbury.   The Seniors met on the 19th April at Buckley’s in Kingsbury with the next date to be arranged soon.

We wish all players good luck in the forthcoming games and for all Parnells Club activity, please visit our website www.parnellsgaa.com where further details and information is published.
