Thomas McCurtains GAA Club Notes.

Last weekend our hurlers recorded a great win in the Ronan Cup on Saturday while our footballers lost out in the semi-final of the McArdle cup. The Camogie team gave a fantastic account of the club in Birmingham winning all three of their games in the British League beating Erin go Bragh, Fullen Gaels & Brother Pearses .

This weekend we're all off to Cork! The Football, Hurling and Ladies Football teams are visiting Passage West to play in a series of challenge matches to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Rising. It promises to be a great few days!

Mens Football:

Result: McArdle Cup Semi-final: Tir Chonaill Gaels: 2-06, Thomas McCurtains: 0-08.

Damp conditions underfoot set up a sticky McArdle semi-final fixture at the home of St. Kiernan's GAA club in Colindale.
Tir Chonaill got off the mark early with a goal that started all the way back in their defence with a long run finished well, low into the corner.

A second goal towards the end of the half put some distance between the teams with a high-ball causing a bit of difficulty, leading to a penalty. It was well struck and the teams went into half-time on a scoreline of 2-03 to 4 points.

McCurtains fared much better in the second half and dominated in defence, limiting the fast Tir Chonaill counter-attack to just 3 points. On another day the result could have been very different but the O'Neills just wouldn't go over or under the bar for the lads, and not for a lack of trying!

It marks the first loss of the campaign and the end of the McArdle cup run but there was lots learned and the team is looking ahead to a strong league and championship season.

THOMAS MCCURTAINS: C. Mulrennen; S. Conwell, K. Delahunty, D. Corrigan (c); P. O'Shea, C. Crowe, S. Quinn; P. Murphy, P. O'Neill; G. Gallagher, B. McHugh, B. Hourihane; M. Gilsenan, P. Haughey, J. Searson.

Subs: L. Mernagh for O'Shea (50 mins)

Hurling:

Result: Ronan Cup Group 2, Round 2: Thomas McCurtains: 7-17, Robert Emmetts: 2-07.

McCurtains Hurlers were always in control of this game as they ran out easy winners against Robert Emmetts 'B' in the second round of the Ronan Cup.

THOMAS MCCURTAINS: P. Ryan; D. Corrigan, B. Ryan, C. Curtain; A. Clancy, K. Dowling, C. Doyle; S. Murphy, P. Murphy; C. Hogan, S. Costello, J. O'Brien; E. Caldwell, S. Moroney, D. Byrne.

Camogie:

The Camogie team had a successful day out in Birmingham on Saturday winning all their three matches in the first round of the British League. The girls comfortably won their opening game against Erin go Bragh with a score of 5-03 to 0-0. A closer match followed as they played Fullen Gaels and only a point separated the teams at the final whistle. In the final match of the day they had the edge on fellow London team Brother Pearses and won by a scoreline of 1-04 to 0-04. Stand out performances from Amie Duncan, Orla King and Cara Cassidy

Camogie training will take place on Wednesday this week at 7pm and Saturday at 11am in East London Rugby Club (E15 3BP).

Minor:

Please note that U8 to U14 football training will be starting back on Wednesday 13th April at 7.00pm in Goodmayes pitch. All new players are welcome, contact Martin McGovern on 07773 005 594 for more details.

With deepest sympathies:

Thomas McCurtains would like to extend its deepest sympathies to the family of Graham Rowe on the death of his mother Elise. Elise was the oldest member of Thomas McCurtains GAA Club. Her funeral will be held today, Monday 18th April at 1630 in Forest Park Cemetery and Crematorium, Forest Road, Hailnult.

The club would also like to extend its deepest sympathies to the family of Carmel Golding on the death of her father Tom Dillon. Tom was a former secretary of Thomas McCurtains and was a great promoter of youth involvement in the GAA. His funeral will take place on Tuesday 26th April at 10.30 in St Mary the Virgin, Maulden, Bedfordshire MK45 2AU. Tom's ashes will be taken to St James, Glenmore, Co Kilkenny for burial alongside his mother.

Our thoughts and prayers are with them all at this difficult time.
