National Hurling League Division 2A Round 2
London 1-14
Meath 1-24
The London hurlers were looking to bounce back from last week’s comprehensive defeat at the hands of Kerry by turning in a winning performance against a Meath team who picked up a win against Kildare in their own first round encounter. Meath made a number of changes from that outing with both personnel and positional changes in the side.
Unfortunately, London never got going like they had done the previous week and found themselves trailing early on. Meath were full price for the lead they held throughout the whole of the game and never really looked threatened by a London team who lack bite in attack and rely on Richard Murphy from placed balls to keep the scoreboard ticking over. At half time the score read 14 points to 7.
The second half followed much the same rhythm as Sean Quigley found the net for the visitors to all but seal the game. Jack Regan remained impeccable from place balls only missing one of his ten opportunities all day and finishing with a personal tally of 10 points(9f). London did grab a consolation goal with virtually the last puck of the game from the substitute Daryl Roberts. The final score read 1-24 to 1-14, the Royal County running out convincing winners leaving them top of Division 2A and London with a relegation battle to fight. London’s next game is against Carlow on Sunday February 18th in McGovern Park Ruislip.
