London GAA Youth Presentation 2017
It was a night to remember regarding the accomplishments achieved by the GAA teams in London. With over 150 in attendance, a special mention was specified to the eight London teams who had achieved success within the year.
Our host of the night Tony Griffin (London GAA youth committee chairperson) began the event congratulating all participants within the teams, also thanking the sponsors. Dulwich Harps U12s were the first to collect silverware with their triumph in the League Final. Next up was the U14 Tara GAA team, with their accomplishments being recognised winning both the League and Championship.
The Conrad Ryan Cup, which was won by St.Kiernans, was presented to the U14 team with an astounding round of applause to the side. The U14 ‘B’ league and championship was next to be honoured, with Gael Londain becoming victors of the league, and Thomas McCurtains with the championship.
The U16 division was next in store, with Parnells conquering the League, but St Kiernans causing an upset which led them to be U16 Championship winners.
The U17 League saw its first year ran in 2017 having 5 teams successfully participating within the competition, with Parnells coming through with shining colours along with their other major honours throughout the year.
Parnells again the favourable team in the U18 league and championship, which saw them winning their fouth major trophy throughout all age groups.
London GAA county board secretary Mark Gottsche had a few honourable mentions on the night, thanking the Youth Committee for their outstanding work during the year, the sponsors for their contributions, the referees for the commitment within games, the secretary, the attendees on the night, and also everyone involved within the London GAA establishment.
Next in store for the audience were the honourable mentions to the Feile Squads and Development Squads, with the U14 South London football team winning the division 2 All Ireland Feile Final, while the North London ladies winning the All-Ireland Shield Feile Final.
U14 North London Player of the Year Cormac Sibley (St. Clarets) was rewarded by Barney Breen (North London Feile manager) for his outstanding efforts as a rock in defence. Rhys Cotter (Thomas McCurtains) was South London’s player of the year with his fantastic contributions to the forwards.
CDA Lloyd Colfer praised the work being executed by all involved within the GAA clubs in London, with also a special appreciation to the Development Squads.
Both U16 and U18 development squads players of the year were honoured also on the night, with Michael English (St. Kiernans) claiming the U16 and Felim Conroy (North London Shamrocks) picking up the U18 player of the year.
Although a great night of celebration, an emotional farewell was given to great servants of London GAA, with both Lucia Butler and Tony Griffin stepping down in their roles. We would like to take this opportunity to both thank and wish all the best to both Lucia and Tony in their future endeavours.
