Parnells Take on West Clare Gaels in All Ireland intermediate Quarter Final

Parnells ladies

Parnells look to take on the Munster intermediate champions at Ruislip on Saturday 30th October at 1pm.

West Clare Gaels are bringing over a group of over 70 people to the game so it is hoped all of London turn out in Force for the 'home' fixture.

A combination of 3 teams, Naomh Eoin, O'Currys and Kilkee, the have Patrick Foley (Naomh Eoin) and Darragh Kelly (Kilkee) in charge and they have won the club’s first county senior title this year, followed by the Munster Title

In 2007 they lost the All Ireland club junior final the Gaels were beaten 1-11 to 0-7 by Foxrock-Cabinteely in the All-Ireland final in Toomevara.

Many of the players who helped West Clare Gaels to provincial victory in 2007 will be vitally important on Sunday. Sineád and Maria Kelly, Majella Griffin, Denise Geaney, Kathleen Foley, Rita Boland, current captain Michelle Downes, Niamh Gardener and Leanne Lynch are amongst the survivors from ’07, while Megan McGrath, Deirdre Troy and Katie Geoghegan have come onto the team in the interim.

Parnells meanwhile have being going about their business rather smartly, with a management team of Tommie Donahue and Mary Daly, they have many members of the Team that ruled London Football back in the late 90's early 00's but this year they have won their first County title in 4 years.

Players like Anne Marie Byrne, Aoife Birrane, Aine McGeough and Grainne O’Riordan have added a new dimension to the squad this year as they swept aside all competition in London winning all titles played this year along with a Provincial title against John Mitchells.

Based on history, this looks like a formality for the Shannon siders as the majority of teams that come over here from Ireland have the benefit of regular competitive spirit and the 'local' mentality for the team.  However, Parnells this year have being a step above most teams this year, with KKG, just promoted from Junior, the only team to come within 10 points of Parnells Ladies. Alot of factors will come into play, the weather, how long the Clare side have to travel and whether Parnells have the belief to do it. They certainly have the talent.

The ladies county board would like to wish the Best to both teams for the match and hope a sizable crowd attend the match to show that Ladies GAA is alive and well in London.

Senior Ladies League Final – Ruislip Sunday 24th Oct

Kerry Kingdoms Gaels look to turn around their championship defeat 3 weeks ago as they take on Parnells in the Senior Ladies football League final in Ruislip this Sunday at 11.30am.

That defeat, 4-10 to 1-09 didn’t reflect the scoring opportunities that KKG had during the game with only the great goalkeeping skills of the Parnells Keeper keeping them in the game.

Parnells then won the Provincial championship in another tough game in Birmingham against John Mitchells Liverpool.

Parnells may be distracted with the All-Ireland ¼ finals on next week against Munster Intermediate champs West Clare Gaels, next Saturday the 30th of October in Ruislip at 1pm  and KKG might catch them on the hop.

We wish both teams best of luck and a great game of football to be played.

The game was supposed to take place last weekend, but KKG were unable to fulfil the fixture and has being postponed to this date.

Fulham Irish Ladies secure Junior League

 Fulham Irish Junior League winners

Fulham Irish 3-13 Dulwich Harps 1-02

At a calm and sunny Greenford on Saturday afternoon, Fulham Irish Ladies completed the clean sweep of all the London Junior competitions for 2010.

In what has proved to be a very good year for the team, Fulham Irish has encountered many tough games with Dulwich Harps, a team that have improved as the year has progressed. In this final though, the stand out junior team of 2010 were not going to finish the season on a low and set about attacking from the outset. It took only three minutes for the first goal chance to come as Paula Cuinnea was bundled over inside the square. Leah Horan stepped up to slot the penalty home. Fulham Irish dominated early possession but didn’t score again until the 10th minute when Sarah Allen, revelling in her centre forward role, fired over a point. Cuinnea added a point shortly afterwards before impressive midfielder, Louise Quinn burst through to add a minor on 16 minutes.

A poor kick out followed, the ball falling to Allen, whose effort eluded the Dulwich Harps goalkeeper and fell to the net to give Fulham Irish their second goal of the game. Quinn was on the score sheet again shortly afterwards as she ran through to split the posts. The final five minutes of the half belonged to Horan and she fired over 4 points, while Quinn also added another to leave the half time score 2-09 to 0-00.

The second half would be much closer as Fulham Irish put more effort into defending their lead as they look to close in on the win. Michelle Murphy burst through to extend the lead in the first minute of the half. A good passage of play from Dulwich Harps saw Sinead Cahill score a fine point to get her team on the board. It would be another 14 minutes until the next score arrived, a cross field ball to Horan was swiftly despatched over the bar. Winning the subsequent kick out, the ball was played back to Horan and without delay the ball was blasted to the net to effectively end the game.

Cahill popped up to toe poke the ball to the net to give Dulwich Harps a consolation goal shortly afterwards. As the clock ran down, the quality of football deteriorated and elements of rough play entered the game as Deirdre Corrigan & Helen Fenton for Fulham Irish received yellow cards while Caroline Olwa received a red card. Late points from Cuinnea and Norma Kearney for Fulham Irish a point from Laura Mythen for Dulwich Harps completed the scoring.

As well as those mentioned, Olivia Walsh, Blathnaid Farrell, Olivia Kirwan and Aoife Synnott had good games for Fulham Irish while Judith McAteer, Kelly Webster and Laura Lee did best for Dulwich Harps.

Fulham Irish:

M Murren, H Fenton, O Walsh, B Farrell, O Kirwan (N Traynor), S Kerrigan, M Quinlan (N Costello), L Quinn, C McMenamin (N Kearney), L Horan, S Allen, P Cuinnea, A Synnott (A Kelly), D Corrigan(R Ryan), M Murphy

Dulwich Harps:

S Szekowka-Harte, D Hughes, J McAteer, A Hogan, M Sharkey (K Stack), K Webster, L Pawley, S Cahill, L McNulty, K President (L Nolan), L Lee, E Stark(C Sheehan), V Ross (M Farrelly), C Olwa, L Mythen

Parnells crowned Undefeated Senior Champions

Parnells Senior London Champs

Parnells 4-9 KKG 1-8

Parnells had a tough but convincing win over Kerry Kingdom Gaels on Sunday 3rd October in a wet Ruislip

Before the match started rumours were circulating that the final might be postponed due to poor pitch conditions and heavy rainfall the night before, but thankfully they didnt materialise.

KKG had the better of the opening exchanges with Parnells looking shakey, this being their first Championship final in 3 years, only Goalkeeping Stalward Jackie McCowen, playing in her 15th Championship final for Parnells(winning 14), kept KKG at bay.

However, goals from Parnells players Ciara O'Sullivan and Aine Mcgeogh soon snuffed out any growing confidence that KKG may have had over the undefeated Parnells team.

Parnells went into half time 10 points up and continued that margin in the 2nd half and looked fairly comfortable to settle for that.

Despite the weather many believed that this match showed some of the best football on the day as Parnells topped off their undefeated London Championship campaign with the Trophy.

Parnells go on now to play the All Britain Final in Birmingham against John Mitchells in Pairc Na Heireann at 1pm on Sunday 10th October. We wish them all the best representing London.

We would like to thank London mens County board for the use of their facilities of Ruislip and both teams for a great advert for Ladies football in London.

Parnells prepare for Senior Championship final!
Date Posted: 28 September 2010

On Sunday Parnells are playing in their 14th county final and have won 13 of these. Goalkeeper Jackie McCowen has played in all of these games and her drive and commitment to the team is as strong as it was when she started playing. Parnells hope to end their 3 year drought of Championships with a win on Sunday. In the road to Sunday's game we have some impressive performances, remaining undefeated, with the team positions and players changing showing how versatile and strong the squad can be. With the squad of 25 we have a selection of girls that range in age from 16 to 50! With our young players Molly Deeley, Grainne McLister and Gemma Young being the future of our club already competing at senior level! And new players such as Anne Marie Byrne, Aoife Birrane, Aine McGeough and Grainne O’Riordan gelling so easily with the club and making it stronger than it has been in years! This year, Sharp shooters Hannah Noonan and Ciara O’Sullivan are top scorers with  Dee O’Riordan and Monica Jordan playing their central part in the success of the early stages. We were delighted this year to receive back some players such as Edel Waldron and Anne Marie McLoughlin that took a “sabbatical”.

Parnells Ladies would like to take this opportunity to firstly thank our sponsors ConForms and Puck Fair Pub and also to wish the Parnells Minor team and Parnells Senior Men’s team best of luck in their respective games also today! Parnells Abú!!

Clonbony Ladies take their football to Vienna!
Date Posted: 28 September 2010

Following their trip to Munich last year Clonbony are keeping with the European theme this October by making a trip to Vienna, Austria to play the Vienna Gaels team. Despite the cooler temperatures this is sure to be an interesting encounter and a great trip for all involved!

The club started training in the cold Saturday mornings of February this year in our home grounds at Pellat Road Wembley under the helm of our manager Conor Sexton. In what was a long and hard fought out season Clonbony emerged unbeaten by all but one other junior team to reach the London championship and Cup finals.. The club and management now aim to capitalise on this in 2011! This year we were also delighted to participate in London St. Patrick’s Day parade which was a fantastic day out and something that we intend in participating in again next year. November will see the annual Clonbony Social to celebrate the year gone by and everyone is most welcome to this.

Clonbony would like to thank everyone involved in the club this year from management to players and of course our loyal supporters. In addition thanks to our fantastic club sponsor Ned Hyland of Forde’s Freehouse pub, Harrow as well as Jason Kitchener from Essential Water Services who generously sponsored us club hoodies this year.

We ask all players new to the sport or not - if you are currently living in London or moving here or perhaps know of someone who is please come and join us. We are a friendly club who take their football seriously but know how to enjoy themselves on and off the field so please contact us by email on clonbony@ymail.com or Caroline on 0044 759659 70 334. Our website is clonbonyladiesgaa.co.uk so have a look! If you are here before Christmas, we have a round of Social events at which you would be most welcome.

Joe Fryday tournament
Date Posted: 13 September 2010

The annual Joe Fryday tournament took place in Greenford on Saturday 11th September. There was a great turnout with over 90 players from 7 clubs (Claddagh Gaels, Dulwich Harps, Fr. Murphys, Fulham Irish, Holloway Gaels, Parnells, St. Anthonys) taking part.

The top two teams in each group (Parnells, Fulham Irish, Holloway Gaels, Dulwich Harps) progressed to semi-finals to play off for the Shield, with Parnells winning against Fulham Irish in the final. The remaining teams competed for the Plate, with Fr.Murphys winning against a team comprised of the extra players from a mixture of the clubs.

Joe Fryday presented the Plate and Shield to the captains of the teams, and Graham Clifford presented a Player of the Tournament cup (kindly sponsored by the Irish Post) to Joanna Shortt of Claddagh Gaels.

Joe Fryday is president of the Ladies Football county board - we greatly appreciate his support and his generosity in sponsoring the tournament each year.

Fulham Irish win Junior Championship 2010
Date Posted: 16 August 2010

Fulham Irish presented Junior Championship trophy by Joe Fryday (president).

Belated congratulations to Fulham Irish who took the Junior Championship title on 7 August 2010, winning 3-16 to 0-02 against Clonbony at Ruislip. Fulham were looking to be '3rd time lucky' after losing the previous two finals, but being unbeaten in this year's Championship.

Leah Horan (capt) opened the scoring in the first minute and the first half continued at pace with Fulham leading 2-11 to 0-0 at half time. The second half saw a determined Clonbony team put two over the bar, but Fulham managed to retain the lead with a few more scores, finishing 3-16 to 0-02.

The two teams are posed to meet again in the Tom O'Connor cup final on 22nd August (Greenford P1 at 11.00 am).

Fulham Irish were disappointed as Oisins of Manchester took the Provincial Junior Championship title in Birmingham on Sunday with Oisins winning the game 4-05 to 2-06.

On a blistering hot Saturday Dulwich Harps hosted Claddagh Gaels in the fourth round of the Junior Championship. The Claddagh ladies were a girl short but the match started with fast pace - Claddagh quickly matched Dulwich's opening goal with two of their own. The first half ended with Dulwich leading 3-7 to 3-3, however the game finished Dulwich Harps 5-17 to Claddagh Gaels 3-3.

Meanwhile Clonbony won against Tara Junior at Pellatt Road, also in the Junior Championship (R4).

This week Holloway Gaels take on Fr Murphys in Round 1 of the Senior League. Throw in at 7.30 on Wednesday at Greenford.
